In what can only be described as a last resort, Mohamad Shahril Sabari, also known as Victor Engku Shah, has parted ways with his Star Wars Lego collection. One can hardly imagine a more noble sacrifice (if one is an avid Lego & Star Wars fan), than this generous gesture.

His wife  Noor Azra Kamaruddin, was diagnosed with cancer last year and after some difficult times has reached the stage where chemotherapy was necessary. The couple, who live in Jaya, Kuala Lumpa have been travelling to the markets weekly to sell of his collections of Lego, Banknotes and Coca Cola memorabilia.

Star Wars collections can be particularly valuable these days, the Millennium Falcon UCS reached auction records recently for about $10,000 AU and recent studies have shown that LEGO has been a better investment than gold in recent years and even a collection built since 2011 like Victor’s can have significant value if the right sets have been acquired, or simply a significant quantity have been kept in good condition.

Ultimately this is a tragic story and I would like to wish the couple the very best in what must be a very difficult situation. I wouldn’t say I have a big collection of LEGO sets, but i’m very proud of the work that has been put into collecting it, especially on what has generally been a small budget, but I would sacrifice it in an instant if it was to help someone I loved. Letting go of something you love is always a challenge though, which is why Victor himself has deemed it “a last resort.”
